For most Quality teams, the Annual Product Quality Review (APQR) is a dreaded manual marathon. It involves chasing data across silos, compiling spreadsheets, and formatting documents, a process that often takes 70 to 120 hours per product.
In our recent webinar, Toni Manzano (Co-founder and CSO, Aizon) and Kevin Baughman (VP of AI Consulting Services, Aizon) explored how Aizon Agentic Studio is dismantling this manual burden and making it possible to turn a regulatory obligation into a competitive advantage.
The APQR Paradox: Bureaucracy vs. Improvement
While the original intent of APQR (dating back to the 1970s) was to drive continuous process improvement, the reality is that, for many, it has become a "check-the-box" exercise.
The webinar highlighted a striking reality:
- The Data Bottleneck: According to live polling during the session, 65% of a Quality team's time is spent simply collecting and preparing data.
- The Resource Drain: This leaves precious little time for actual analysis or process optimization.
Enter Agentic Studio: Analytics in Natural Language
The most transformative shift discussed was the move toward Conversational Analytics. As Toni Manzano noted, we are entering an era where natural language puts manufacturing insights within reach of every team member.
Agentic AI acts as a proactive collaborator that can:
- Navigate Data Silos: It interacts directly with cross-batch data from LIMS, ERP, and MES systems.
- Contextualize in Real-Time: By using standards like ISA 88 and ISA 95, the AI organizes data around the batch context, allowing for instant insights.
- Generate Reports in Minutes: What used to take months of manual compilation can now be generated as a dynamic draft in minutes, allowing SMEs to focus on Human-in-the-loop analysis rather than data gathering.
From Retrospective to Continuous (CPQR)
The ultimate goal is to transition from a retrospective annual review to Continuous Product Quality Review (CPQR). By leveraging a unified data foundation, companies can move from looking at what went wrong 11 months ago to predicting and preventing deviations today. This shift doesn't just satisfy regulators: it improves yields, cuts deviations, and ensures better outcomes for patients.
